You still have time to file your tax return … for 2019, that is.

The IRS has reported that more than 1.5 million taxpayers have unclaimed refunds dating back to 2019. Typically, the deadline for filing prior year returns is three years, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline to file a tax return for the year 2019 to July 17, 2023.

This extension provides many taxpayers with the opportunity to claim valuable family tax credits, such as the Child Tax Credit, the Child and Dependent Tax Credit, and the Earned Income Tax Credit.
It’s important to note that if you haven’t filed your tax returns for the years 2020 or 2021, the IRS may delay the payment of your refund or apply it to outstanding federal or state tax bills, unpaid child support, or past due federal debts.
